Invest in a spin-out
Isis Innovation Ltd is responsible for managing the formation of new spin-out companies from the University of Oxford with the academic founders, on behalf of the University of Oxford. Isis manages the Oxford University Challenge Seed Fund, the Oxford Invention Fund and the Isis Angels Network. These are the sources of funding which can go into the first round investments.
Isis is always interested in engaging with any individuals or organisation interested in investing in early stage technology start-ups. As a matter of principle, we believe it is very important that all investors have the same opportunities to invest, and that investments are made by willing and appropriate investors into companies wishing to engage with those investors.

Oxford Spin-out Equity Management
Oxford Spin-out Equity Management (OSEM) manages the University’s shareholdings in its spin-out companies and seeks ways of maximising the value of its equity stakes.
OSEM has three main roles:
- Strategic: Identifying opportunities to optimise the return on the University’s investment and providing professional assistance to companies as they develop.
- Tactical: Supporting companies by dealing with immediate or short-term issues, such as funding or access to other support networks.
- Procedural: Dealing with documentation relating to consents, fundraising and exits.
In fulfilling these roles, OSEM calls on its own team’s expertise, its extensive networks of contacts in the financial, commercial and scientific worlds, and its own investment fund which it manages on behalf of the University of Oxford.
If you would like to learn more about any of the companies in the current portfolio please get in touch using the below contact details.

The Isis Software Incubator
The Isis Software Incubator (ISI) supports nascent software ventures from the University’s ecosystem in the development of products or services and assists them to trade.
The ISI has been supporting such ventures since late 2010 and launched an on-site incubation facility at Summertown, Oxford in mid 2011. It offers a wide spectrum of support services including commercial mentoring, Intellectual Property advice, assistance in identifying potential customers, enquiry handling and advice on formation of a limited company. Ventures are also provided with 24/7 access to a joint development space, and shared IT facilities. As each venture matures it may reach the stage where it requires external investment and ISI will support them in this too.
The ventures in the Incubator are at various stages of development. While they all share software as a theme, their application fields vary from energy usage analysis through text analytics to social media networks and data analysis.
